Model Residential Schools

   

Model residential schools are started in the manner of Public Schools for bright students with residential facility.

Admissions are made to 5th standard based on entrance tests from students who have passed 4th standard. 35 students are given admission.

Once fully functional the model residential school will have capacity for 280 students up to 12th standard, residential facilities for teachers and other staff, library, lab, recreation and other such facilities. All expenses will be free for students who secure admission.

Applications are invited in December/January. Admission is based on entrance tests. Applications should be forwarded to District Scheduled Caste Development Officer along with caste, income, age certificates and details marks obtained in last examination. The income limit of parents is Rs.40,000/- per annum.

Sports School

   

Sree Ayyankali Memorial Model residential school at Vellayani in Thiruvananthapuram aims at promoting talent in sports among the scheduled caste - scheduled tribe students. Admissions are for students from 5th to 10th standard. Every year 30 students are admitted in 5th standard (15 boys, 15 girls). Selection is based on merit based on tests. 10 students in every class will be from scheduled castes.

Expenses for lodging, food, training etc are met by Government. Each student is allotted Rs.800/- per month for food. For further details contact the Nemom Block Scheduled Caste Development Officer

Sports School

 

Reservation of seats in colleges

   

In government recognised institutes including Private colleges 20% of seats (15+5) are reserved for Scheduled Caste - Scheduled tribe students for plus two, arts and science subjects. In Vocational higher secondary, professional colleges and technical institutes the reservation is 10% (8+2).

Students admitted in merit list are not included in the reservation lists. The reservation of seats should be maintained for every course and every subject. To ensure that reservation is strictly followed there is a panel of Deputy Director from Trivandrum and Kozhikode.

This benefit can be availed by all scheduled caste - scheduled tribe students. There is no income limit.

   

Educational facilities for bright students in private boarding schools.

   

This programme is aimed at providing better education to the poor student belonging to scheduled castes. The students thus selected are enrolled in standard 5 of reputed Boarding schools. (English/Malayalam). All expenses up to 12th Standard (uniform, books, stationery, tour, food etc.) are borne by Government. The annual income limit of parents is Rs.30,000/-.

Applications for this scheme along with caste, income certificate and copy of mark list of last exam should be submitted to Municipal, Corporation Secretaries for those residing in Municipal, Corporation limits. Others should apply to District Panchayat Secretary.
