In Kerala, where school
education is free the scheduled caste, scheduled tribe students are given a lump
sum grant at the beginning of the academic year to buy study materials, dress
etc.
Nursery school (LP Section) -
Rs. 65/-
(1- 4th Standard)
- Rs. 95/-
UP Section (5th to 7th Standard) - Rs. 155/-
High School Section (8th to 10th Standard) - Rs. 220/-
50% of the above amount is given as lump sum grant to a student who has failed
and is studying in the same class for the consecutive year.
Students belonging to the communities Nayadi, Vedan, Vettuvan etc. that are
amongst the most backward of the scheduled caste are given monthly stipend at
the following rates as special incentive.
1 - 4th Std. - Rs. 35
5 - 7th Std. - Rs. 40
8 - 10th Std. - Rs. 45
Children of those who practice unclean occupations like scavengers, leather
tannings etc. are given lump sum grant and monthly stipend at the following
rates for pre- matric education.
Yearly lump sum grant - Rs. 500/-
Monthly stipend
1 - 4th Std. - Rs. 25/-
5 - 7th Std. - Rs. 40/-
8 - 10th Std. - Rs. 50/-
To avail this benefit a certificate regarding parent’s occupation from village
officer or employer or Grama panchayat Secretary, along with written application
should be submitted to the School authorities. This benefit can be availed by
children belonging to all classes (Forward, Other Backward etc.) |
