Pre-examination Training Centres

   

There is 8% reservation for Scheduled caste students in Government service. Pre examination training centres function in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam & Kozhikode to give short-term training for recruitment exams conducted by PSC.

There are also short term courses for recruitment exams conducted by Staff Selection Commission, Banking Service Recruitment Board and also Medical/Engineering / LLB Entrance coaching. A 3 month long computer training is given for Scheduled caste/tribe students in P.E.T.C. , Trivandrum. Admission is for Data entry and software operations and DTP course. Those in the age group of 18 - 25 can apply. Those who are admitted get Rs.500/per month as stipend.

A two-year type writing and stenography course is conducted for scheduled caste/tribe students in the Pre-examination training centres. The yearly income of applicants should not exceed Rs.44,500/-. Those admitted to the course are given monthly stipend of Rs.400/- and for those requiring hostel facility Rs.800/- per month is given.

For admission, applications in prescribed form along with caste, income certificate, copy of mark list of final exam should be submitted to the principals of concerned centres on notification for the same.

   

Separate coaching Centres for Civil Service Exam

   

A coaching centre for training Scheduled Caste/tribe students for All India Service exams functions in Trivandrum. Every year a maximum thirty students are admitted based on entrance tests and interviews. Of this 50% seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste students, 30% for Scheduled tribe students, 10% for Scheduled caste/tribe students in nearby seats and from this year 10% to students of other castes. Hostel facility is also given for those required. For day scholars a stipend of Rs.500/- per month and for hostelites pocket money of Rs.250/per month is given. Students who pass preliminary exam are given training for main exams. Applications should be submitted to Principal.

   

Centre for Excellence

   

A Centre for excellence to develop and enhance competitive ability in Scheduled caste/tribe students and job aspirants functions in Kozhikode under IIM. The aims of the centre are

To equip students to gain admission in educational institutes of national importance/professional institutes through competitive exams.
To equip students for competitive exams requiring special skill and talent,
To help develop students to make them capable of getting jobs is Research/development.
To develop skills and personality in those working in corporate sector.

All expenses for training, lodging, food etc. is borne by government. Applications when called for should be directed to Secretary or Director.

   

ITC’s, Production training Centres

   

In the 41 ITC’ in various districts training is given in NCVT standard in trades like Electrician, electronics, Mechanic, Draftsman, Civil, Mechanic, Radio Television Mechanic, Motor Vehicle, Painter (general), Plumber, Carpenter, Cutting and Tailoring , welding and Surveyor. Those who pass the All India Trade test will receive National Trade Certificate. Three production training centres function under the Department to give training in production of Coir Products, Handloom weaving etc. Those who have failed SSLC can apply for training in Painter, Plumber, Welder, Cutting and tailoring, production of Coir products and handloom weaving. For the rest of the courses the minimum qualification will be SSLC.

Selected trainees are given full fee concession, uniform allowance, lump sum grant and stipend at the rate of Rs.26 per month. Age limit is 40 years. Applications should be forwarded to Training Superintendents of the concerned Institute.

   

Training in Private Institutions

   

A certain number of seats are reserved for Scheduled caste/tribe students in private engineering /non-engineering colleges recognised by the Department. Students selected by a committee which includes a representative of the Department are given fee concessions, lump sum grant and monthly stipend. Applications should be forwarded to respective Institution Heads.

   

Coaching for entrance exams

   

A programme has been started from 2002-03 for giving necessary coaching to Scheduled caste students for entrance tests admission to Hi-tech courses like IIM, IIT etc. The selected students are given other benefits also.
